{"id":1923,"date":"2014-05-05T11:47:43","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T09:47:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.massalubrenseturismo.it\/massa-centro-2\/"},"modified":"2021-12-28T12:02:02","modified_gmt":"2021-12-28T11:02:02","slug":"massa-centro","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.massalubrenseturismo.it\/en\/massa-lubrense\/hamlets\/massa-centro\/","title":{"rendered":"Massa Centro"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A historic center to be discovered.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Massa Centro is the chief town of the municipality of Massa Lubrense<\/strong>,&nbsp;here are public offices, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massalubrenseturismo.it\/en\/tourist-office-massa-lubrense\/\">tourist information office of Pro Loco Massa Lubrense<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Largo Vescovado is the main square, with the Town Hall, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massalubrenseturismo.it\/en\/former-cathedral-santa-maria-delle-grazie\/\">Former Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Grazie<\/a>, and the adjacent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massalubrenseturismo.it\/en\/oratory-arciconfraternita-morte-orazione\/\">Oratory of the Arciconfraternita della Morte e Orazione<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At one end of the square there is the belvedere called &#8220;Pennino&#8221; which allows you to admire the enchanting island of Capri and the island of Ischia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full wp-image-2088\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2837\" height=\"1895\" src=\"https:\/\/www.massalubrenseturismo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Pennino-Massa-centro-Giovanni-Gargiulo.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32879\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not to be missed, a few meters from the square, is the &#8220;Cerriglio&#8221;, former Palazzo De Martino, an ancient noble house, with a characteristic avenue of tuff pillars and marble busts; at the end of the avenue the beautiful nymphaeum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Going down via Palma, in the Villarca area there is the &#8220;Quartiere&#8221;, the former college of the Society of Jesus, built in 1600 where the palace of Queen Giovanna II of Durazzo once stood. On its side there is the &#8220;Torrione&#8221;, a typical military architecture of the early seventeenth century, built to defend the Jesuit College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Massa Centro consists of the aggregation of various ancient hamlets: Morta or Mortora, Sirignano, Quarazzano, Palma, Campo. The historian Maldacea in 1840 wrote: &#8220;This modern city of Massa Lubrense is made up of more Casali, close to each other &#8230;\u00a0the air is pure and the atmosphere has a great advantage over the surrounding hamlets, because it is not subject to\u00a0the fog that hurts terribly to the vegetation of these campaigns above. The City is situated above a irregular floor and is very high from the sea level, enjoys the view of the crater, is sheltered by north winds.
