Cooking Class in Massa Lubrense: a taste to remember

If you’re planning a trip to the Sorrento Peninsula and want to bring home more than just snapshots, Massa Lubrense is the perfect place to enjoy an authentic cooking class. Here, food is culture, tradition, and togetherness: learning how to prepare local dishes is a wonderful way to dive into the heart of everyday life. In this area, you’ll find charming farmhouses and villas that not only welcome guests but also host cooking lessons. The aim of these classes is to share hands-on knowledge of Mediterranean cuisine—teaching how to handle fresh ingredients and turn them into traditional recipes. Let’s take a look at three different options and what each cooking experience has to offer.

Fattoria Terranova

Fattoria Terranova is a farmhouse that offers a variety of cooking experiences for both tourists and enthusiasts. Among the activities available are traditional Mediterranean cooking classes, pizza-making sessions, and more specialized workshops, such as those dedicated to lemons. The lemon-themed cooking class covers the history of the fruit, hands-on preparation of traditional dishes, and ends with a limoncello tasting.

Other focused workshops explore local traditions, such as making the Sorrento mozzarella braid, where guests take an active role under the guidance of the chef. For a full experience, the comprehensive course includes an appetizer, first course, main dish, and dessert, paired with wines from Campania. This full immersion also includes harvesting produce from the farmhouse garden, making the experience deeply connected to the local land and its traditions.

Mary’s farm

Located in the picturesque village of Torca in Massa Lubrense, Mary’s Farm offers cooking classes steeped in the flavors and traditions of Italian cuisine. Guided by a local chef, participants learn to prepare authentic dishes using fresh ingredients sourced directly from Tenuta OroVerde, the farm that runs the property.

Among the recipes are appetizers, fried calzoni, ravioli, lemon meatballs, stuffed eggplant “boats,” traditional desserts, and limoncello. At the end of the class, guests enjoy the dishes they’ve prepared, paired with selected local wines, mineral water, Italian coffee, and homemade limoncello—all while taking in the stunning views of the Amalfi Coast. Each participant also receives a kit of local products and a complete recipe book to recreate the dishes back home.

Maison Fernanda

Maison Fernanda is an 18th-century villa that has been recently renovated, located in Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi. The property is run with care and passion by Marco and Fernanda; in addition to welcoming guests, Fernanda is also the resident chef and personally leads the cooking classes.

The lessons take place in the kitchen, decorated with the famous Vietri tiles, and focus on traditional dishes from the Sorrento area. Guests can even pick some of the ingredients directly from the villa’s garden, making their creations fresher and more genuine.

There are several types of courses to choose from: a Pasta and Pizza Class, where participants learn the techniques of fresh pasta and artisanal pizza; a Pastry Class, dedicated to local desserts; and a Seafood Class, revealing the secrets of Sorrento’s coastal cuisine. Each lesson is taught step by step, ending with a tasting of the prepared dishes on the veranda or in the garden, accompanied by wine, water, and limoncello..
