Family beaches in Massa Lubrense

Massa Lubrense is also famous for its beautiful beaches. In particular, the two main ones are Marina del Cantone and Marina di Puolo, both easily reachable by car and equipped with parking. These family beaches are the most popular because they are the perfect destination for those traveling with children.

Marina del Cantone

Marina del Cantone is one of the largest beaches on the peninsula and overlooks the Gulf of Salerno. It is characterized by its clear water and white pebbles, which attract children and emphasize their desire to play.

It is ideal for families who want to enjoy a relaxing day and a nice beach bath with their children, since the water is shallow if you do not go too far from the shore. Children can enjoy snorkeling among the rocks, where you can admire the largest number of fish.

In Marina del Cantone, you can also rent pedal boats and canoes, to be used independently to explore the bay or choose from the different kayak excursions proposed.

The beach has free access in some areas with the possibility of renting umbrellas, sun beds and deck chairs, or you can opt for one of the different bathing establishments present.

You can also get to Marina del Cantone by bus, starting from Sorrento, Massa or Sant’Agata sui due golfi.

Marina di Puolo

The seaside village of Puolo is located halfway between Sorrento and Massa Lubrense and marks the beginning of the Lubrense coast.

Also here we find a pebble beach with several bathing establishments and in addition a free beach with volcanic sand, known as “spiaggia del fico”. Also in Puolo you can rent pedal boats and canoes.

Marina di Puolo is in many ways similar to Marina del Cantone, but is distinguished by the striking view of Vesuvius.

Buses do not reach the beach, but there is a stop on Via Capo at the beginning of the descent to Marina di Puolo. The stretch to walk is about 800 meters, quite tiring uphill.

Both beaches are perfect for both children and adults, thanks to the presence of bars and restaurants where you can taste the delicacies of local cuisine, especially the sea food.

The beauty of these family beaches means that the crowding is very high in July and August and on summer weekends. If possible, we recommend visiting them at the beginning of the week or in June and September, when they are definitely less crowded.

Spring walks in Massa Lubrense 2023

For this spring, the Pro Loco Massa Lubrense is offering four guided tours in some of the most fascinating places in the area.

Four Sundays between May and June to travel and discover Massa Lubrense: we do it on foot and with total respect for the places, to get to know them better and touch their essence. Paths and routes, sometimes even off the beaten track, are in fact real mines of treasures of history, traditions and nature.

Sirenuse trail
Departure: 9 am from the square of Sant’Agata sui due golfi
Duration: about 4 hours

The Sirenuse Trail is a scenic circular route that allows you to cross the southern slope of the Sorrento Peninsula enjoying enchanting views: from the Amalfi Coast to the Faraglioni of Capri.

Sunday 28th May
Ieranto Bay
Departure: 9:00 from the square of Nerano
Duration: about 4 hours

The Bay of Ieranto is a rocky inlet between Punta Campanella and Punta Penna. It is the pearl of the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area and can only be reached on foot or by canoe.

Punta Campanella
Departure: 9:00 from the square of Termini
Duration: about 4 hours

A pleasant excursion on foot is the only way to reach Punta Campanella, along a path of about an hour on the northern slope of the Promontorium Minervae, which separates the Gulf of Naples from the Gulf of Salerno.

Crapolla Cove

Duration: about 4 hours

The Crapolla Cove is one of the most evocative inlets on the coast of Massa Lubrense: in addition to being of great naturalistic interest, it preserves visible traces of a past rich in history.

Great emotion and happiness for the Napoli fans who celebrated the third championship in the team’s history.

In every square and in every street, flags have sprung up from the windows, blue ribbons that go from one balcony to another, banners on the facades of the buildings.

The life-size silhouettes of the players were installed in the gardens of Massa Centro. There is also Spalletti and, of course, Maradona.

Limoncello cream recipe

The territory of Massa Lubrense allows us to embark on a journey through the aromas and flavors of its land. In particular, those of its citrus fruits with an irresistible scent, from which countless delicacies can be drawn.

Limoncello cream, for example, is a thick and creamy liqueur very common in the Sorrento peninsula. It is an ideal end of meal, to be served frozen and enjoyed alone or in company. Some use limoncello cream as a garnish for cakes and tarts, to flavor desserts or as a wets for sponge cake and baba. Its preparation is not difficult, but requires quite a long time. However, the result repays the effort.

The flavor of limoncello cream recalls that of limoncello, the classic liqueur made from the alcohol infusion of lemon peel. The lemon of Massa Lubrense, known as “femminiello”, is different from the one of Amalfi for its particular skin, more subtle and aromatic. In short, impossible not to recommend for the production of our limoncello cream.

How to prepare limoncello cream

To get an excellent limoncello cream, make sure, therefore, to pay attention to the lemon peel that you will use. In fact, regardless of their origin, it is preferable that they are biological and untreated.

Ingredients – dose for 1,5 liters

8	(untreated) Lemons
500 ml	Pure alcohol at 95°
½ l	Full-cream milk
800 g	Sugar
½ l	Fresh cream
1	Vanilla bean

Here’s how to prepare our limoncello cream in 4 steps:

Wash the lemons with the help of a sponge and cut the peel avoiding the white part. Pour the pure alcohol in an airtight jar, then add the lemon peels and let them macerate there for at least 10 days. Put the jar in a cool place remembering to shake it every day.
After doing this, pour the milk and cream into a pan and bring to a boil adding next the vanilla bean.
After turning off and letting it cool add the sugar and stir it until it will dissolve completely. Once the cream has cooled completely, let’s remove the vanilla bean and proceed to pour the alcohol of our jar filtering it with a gauze or a strainer.
Mix it well, pour the liquid into glass bottles and keep it in a freezer for about 20 days. After this, our cream will be ready to be served with a dessert or to be enjoyed in good company as a simple digestive.

Storage

Limoncello cream can be stored in the freezer for one year. Cream and milk liqueurs (liqueur creams) are easily altered, so it is better to keep them in the refrigerator and consume them within 12 months of their production.

Advices

Shake it well before serving. If the cream is too thick, leave it for 10-15 minutes outside the freezer before consuming it. To make your limoncello cream less alcoholic, reduce the dose of alcohol: about 350ml instead of ½ liter, remains an excellent solution.

Festivals are popular local celebrations that generally arise from a religious festivity, often to commemorate a saint. They are generally animated by music, fun activities and excellent cuisine. In Massa Lubrense there are several festivals throughout the year: here you can taste the best products of our land.

Zucchini Festival

It takes place on the second Sunday of July in the village of Acquara to celebrate the patron saint St. Vito. The day of St. Vito is actually celebrated on June 15th, but it is customary to carry out the festival in July. The most important moment is certainly the procession that passes through the whole village. Among the delicious foods that you can eat, there are many zucchini-based dishes such as the famous parmigiana and spaghetti alla Nerano.

Lemon Festival

Among the most famous festivals in the area there is certainly the lemon festival. It is held in July and is dedicated to one of the typical products of our land: lemon. You can taste various dishes and lemon-based specialties such as sorbet and risotto and you can also try the famous limoncello.

Snail Festival

Also very famous is the snail festival held on June 29th in Monticchio. The festival takes place on the occasion of the feast of St. Peter. There is, at first, a long procession followed by the Massa Lubrense music band. Then during the festival, in addition to pleasant musical performances and various activities for the youngest, you can taste the delicious snails.

Potato Festival

It takes place in the village of Termini to celebrate San Costanzo. It is held in July and usually lasts for a weekend. The main product is the potato, which is the basis of all dishes, from the starter to the dessert. Among the specialties are croquette, potato ravioli and Neapolitan staples.

Tomato festival

It takes place on the first Sunday of August in the village of Torca to celebrate the patron saint, St. Anna. As for the zucchini festival, also in this case the feast of the saint is actually on a different day, that is, July 26th. The tomato can be tasted in many traditional and non-traditional recipes, all accompanied by music and fun.

Fiordilatte Festival

On the occasion of the patronal feast of St. Salvatore, on August 6th, the Fiordilatte Festival is held in the village of Schiazzano. Fiordilatte is one of the typical cheeses of Massa Lubrense but you can also taste the famous provolone del monaco and a great variety of local dairy products.

Eggplant Festival

The festival is held on August 15th in the village of Marina della Lobra to celebrate the feast of the Madonna dell’Assunta. For the religious anniversary, a procession takes place by sea to the rock of Vervece. Afterwards, in the evening, you can enjoy various eggplant-based dishes, including the famous chocolate eggplants.

Cosa c’è di meglio, dopo aver trascorso qualche giorno in questo luogo immerso nella natura, che portare via con sé i sapori tipici della sua terra? Dal limoncello artigianale ai prodotti caseari, vediamo le prelibatezze che, attraverso i cinque sensi, riescono a riportarci per qualche istante a Massa Lubrense, anche se solo con la mente.

Il Limoncello

Quello di Massa Lubrense è uno dei più rinomati al mondo. I limoni per la sua produzione prendono il nome di ”femminiello” e sono differenti da quelli dell’intera costiera, per la loro particolare scorza, più sottile ed aromatica; a questi è, inoltre, dedicata una sagra che si svolge in paese nel mese di luglio. Il limoncello si ottiene dalla macerazione in alcol etilico, al circa 90% di gradazione, delle scorze di questi pregiati agrumi. Si serve, di solito, dopo i pasti, per le sue alte proprietà digestive e per il suo sapore dolce.
Insomma, un ottimo prodotto da regalare ai nostri cari, come souvenir, o da tenere per noi per ricordare il magnifico soggiorno.

Il provolone del Monaco DOP

Provolone del Monaco sapori di Massa Lubrense

Qui a Massa Lubrense è uno dei prodotti caseari più richiesti, per la particolarità della sua forma e dei sapori che sprigiona. È un formaggio a pasta filata, ricavato principalmente dal latte delle mucche di Agerola. Si ottiene riscaldando il latte, fino ad ottenere una cagliata che sia più cotta rispetto a quella del classico Caciocavallo. Il suo processo di stagionatura è lungo e lento, della durata di 6 mesi o più, e senza l’aggiunta di conservanti e fermenti. La forma, come detto, è particolare, di melone o pera con un gusto aromatico e piccante.
Il suo nome, inoltre, deriva dal mantello che i pastori indossavano per proteggersi dal freddo durante i viaggi di trasporto del prodotto da Vico Equense alla città metropolitana di Napoli.
Nel 2010 ha ottenuto la Denominazione di Origine Protetta a livello europeo.

L’olio

Prodotto molto amato ed esclusivo nel suo sapore è l’olio di Massa Lubrense. Si ottiene dalla frangitura delle olive da olio coltivate qui, che prendono il nome di Minucciolo o Cecinella, la cui raccolta avviene tra ottobre e novembre. Si predilige questo tipo perché e molto resistente al freddo invernale e alla siccità. Queste vengono lavorate nel frantoio integrale a ciclo continuo ed il prodotto finale assume un colore verde con riflessi dorati. Il suo sapore è particolare perchè acerbo e con sentore e retrogusto di carciofi e ginestre.

Il vino

La vite per la sua produzione viene allevata ad un’altezza media di 4 metri, con sistema a pergola o spalliera alta. Le tipologie più conosciute sono quello bianco e rosso frizzante.
Quello bianco è caratterizzato da un colore paglierino più o meno intenso e da un profumo delicato e gradevole. I vitigni impiegati per la sua realizzazione sono: Falanghina al 40%, Biancolella o Greco al 20% e altre uve per il restante 20%.
Invece il rosso frizzante è di un rosso rubino, vivace ed evanescente e dal profumo intenso e fruttato. I vitigni impiegati sono: Piedirosso al 40%, Olivella o Agliani al 20% e altri vini per il restante 20%.
Sarano ottimi per arricchire pranzi e cene, che i piatti siano a base di mare o di terra.

Conserva di mele limoncelle

È una marmellata che si ottiene dalle mele di Sant’Agata sui due Golfi, varietà ormai difficile da trovare, anche se nell’Ottocento era uno dei principali mezzi di sostentamento per il paese. Ha una caratteristica forma ellittica, con la buccia sottile e lentigginosa dal colore giallo e a volte rosso. La sua polpa è molto profumata, e dal sapore leggero ed un po’ aspro di limone: quando la mela è ben matura la polpa assume un colore bianco. Viene raccolta tra settembre ed ottobre e si conserva a lungo.
Una crostata di mele realizzata con questa confettura renderà questo dolce, comune e quasi banale, unico e dai sapori frizzanti.

Baia di Ieranto: una bellissima baia situata tra Punta Campanella e Punta Penna. La spiaggia, circondata da una vegetazione verde e rigogliosa, è costituita da ciottoli ed è bagnata da acque azzurre.
Marina del Cantone: ideale per chi cerca una spiaggia comoda dove prendere il sole; alterna zone di spiaggia libera a tratti di spiagge attrezzate con stabilimenti balneari e altri servizi.
Crapolla: una caletta che ospita una piccola ma meravigliosa spiaggia di ciottoli. Il percorso verso questo angolo di paradiso si snoda attraverso una natura rigogliosa e talvolta selvaggia, che nasconde reperti risalenti all’epoca romana.
