Bagni della Regina Giovanna

The Baths of Queen Giovanna (Bagni della Regina Giovanna) are one of the most enchanting places on the Sorrento coast, a romantic and wild place at the same time, and of great charm.

It is one of the most historical places of the coast, where mystery and legend find space in a corner of paradise. The name is due to Queen Giovanna D’Angiò who lived here between 1371 and 1435, the golden years of her reign. It is said that the queen used to come here on vacation with her young lovers, spending time in the lagoon’s water, away from prying eyes.

But the story of this special place is much older and dates back to the first century B.C. when the great villa of the Roman noble Pollio Felice stood on these rocks. A splendid construction, cited in many writings of the period by Horace, Stradone and Pliny the Younger.

The path that leads to the site is about 600 meters long, in about ten minutes you are facing a splendid panorama, between a huge limestone cliff overlooking the sea and the remains of the Roman villa. A steep staircase leads to the beautiful lagoon, connected to the sea by a natural arch. You can go down into the water and swim in the shallow water, emerald green, with the light filtering through the arch.
