Italy is the country with the largest number of sites recognized by UNESCO for the strong presence of ancient villages, churches, monuments, ruins and archaeological sites.

In first place there are the excavations of Pompeii, an obligatory stop for those who want to discover the Italian archaeological beauties. In this Roman city, the streets and buildings have crystallized over time: visiting the excavations of Pompeii is a journey in the first century AD.

The excavations of Herculaneum are less extensive, but better preserved: the city was submerged in ash, allowing the artistic and architectural masterpieces to reach our days almost intact.

Buried together with Pompeii and Herculaneum after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79, the archaeological areas of Oplonti, Boscoreale and Stabia include villas of otium (holiday resorts for Roman patricians) and rustic villas (used for agriculture).

The temples of Paestum are one of the wonders brought by the Greeks to our country. Walking through the excavations we can find the Temple of Athena, then Ceres and the Temple of Peace. But also several commercial buildings such as the Macellum (the ancient market), the Curia, the Tabularium (the Senate archive) and the thermal baths.

From Massa Lubrense, you can reach these archaeological sites by train or car.
